Dear Valued Customer:

This letter provides notification about the features that will be obsolete, or discontinued, in the upcoming PowerBuilder 2022 R2 release. Obsolete features are features that are available but are no longer eligible for technical support and will no longer be enhanced. Discontinued features are features that are completely removed from the product, and therefore will require you remediate before being able to upgrade to PowerBuilder 2022 R2.

Obsolete Features:

  • The DDE functions and events will no longer be eligible for technical support. Customers can continue using the feature without support.

Discontinued Features:

  • Windows 8.1. Microsoft will discontinue Windows 8.1 support from January 10, 2023. Customers who use Windows 8.1 as the operation system of PowerBuilder IDE or Runtime can choose to upgrade to a supported Windows OS such as Windows 11.
  • Windows Server 2012 R2. Microsoft will discontinue Windows 2012 R2 support from October 10, 2023. Customers who use Windows 2012 R2 as the operation system of PowerBuilder IDE or Runtime can choose to upgrade to a supported Windows OS such as Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022.
  • The DirectConnect database connection. For customers using DirectConnect to set up the database connection, please switch to the ODBC or native database connection.
